Woohooo.... The second finished piece of my personal 24-Theme-Challenge.

This is *Words*.
Since Helmorui have a special sign language, called 'Comhartha' I thought it to be very befitting to paint that. The hands and fingers of Helmorui are very slender and nimble, they are perfect for this complex language (that is exactly the same like the sign language of the famus drow. I am quite aware of that.)
Whole discussions can be led in Comhartha. This is Cronachan, wearing his embroidered velvet vest, showing the sign for *words*.

My model was Lothar, my best buddy.

This is very nicely done. I love the pose the hands are going for. However, this is not bad criticism so don't take it the wrong way. I'm sure many people come around to annoy the hell out of you with something that might sound the way I'm trying to put it, but, if you are going for your own type of dark elf, why not just jumping entirely into it? You seem to have enough material. I would consider a few changes, and that's it. Then again, that is just a suggestion. I know it can be difficult with all the stories that are done about the famous dark elves, and specially the ones that took the myth of the dark elves and turned them into the drow that we know and... apparently love, or at least feel intrigued towards them. There are certain elements of fantasy that people expect to have respected. Fantasy in that sense is not like science fiction - sadly, But it's not impossible to create something new from something that seems overused. I think you certainly have the talent for it.

At least what I did, I stopped focusing on dark elves altogether and went deeper into something that is rarely talked about: half drow, or half dark elves. There's little to no info about them, no social structure even if they are "good" unlike their siblings. I can tell you, it's been hard, but it's been fun. That was just me of course. I am certain that with all the material you have you can reach to the vision you have of dark elves. Reading on what exists of mythology maybe can help too. Regardless, I cheer for you and your art.

Firstly, thank you very, very much for the fav and the elaborate comment! That is both much appreciated!

I don't get you wrong for you are right. Why not creating a whole NEW race?
The thing is... over 10 years ago I decided to play D&D third edition, but in my own world. I love the game, I love the mechanics of that RPG (after testing 11 different games so far) and generally I love the rules too.
Now I put my effort into the world for though I like the rules, making it fair for everyone, my main focus is always the story. Each and every RPG tells you to change what you don't like... and I did. For each and every race I use on my world, I created some extras, some special rules. I even have 13 different human *breeds* and all are a wee bit different, have some specials, still following the basic rules of D&D 3.5.
I liked the idea of dark elves too, of their so very different culture, their chaotic and evil ways... what I didn't like were quite some rules. So with the help of seasoned gamemaster friends I changed what I didn't like and playtested it and changed the culture of the drow to my liking too. It is still almost the same for I was just lazy and I didn't want to invent the wheel anew when there was a realm and race of which I liked 85%.
The main reason I always mention that my helmorui are no drow but very similar is, that people tried to tell me I used the WRONG rules. That got on my nerves. Like almost everybody else in RPG, I use the rules I like ;)
I have many hobbies, I don't have much time and for over ten years I am developing this campaign setting of mine. All is a bit different there but still... It is D&D/Pathfinder

I am no native speaker so I hope I was able to explain it a bit. Thank you very much again for the elaborate comment! :aww:

No worries. I understood everything you said.

Now that you explained yourself, I understand, and I can say, screw the rest of the people. Is it wrong for me to see it as an extension of the drow species, perhaps cousins from some distant world? I mean, D&D is full of crossovers, and it digs into that more often than not.

Other thing is, I don't know how you managed to show this to the world and having the many complains. I surely wouldn't have been able to show the courage, but then again I would not be looking at these wonderful images you created. So, I'm glad you did :) I... I think I'll stay with my half drow, though, lol. They are nearly unexplored and interesting to build culture around a race that lives deep within the webs of organized chaos, but who's MO is survival rather than greed. Feels like writing post-apocalyptic stuff lol.

Oh, thank you so much for faving! I am happy you like it for I tried to paint beautiful hands. I always imagine Cronachan's hands to be long and slender, but strong. Nimble and on the inside rough from swordplay, but on the other hand very gentle, when he wants to.
